This is the eighth year of the Festival. It is an excellent complement to the creative disciplines in art, design and the built environment on our Belfast campus.
The busy week of events generates a special vitality throughout the campus and its array of internationally renowned guests bring a unique opportunity for the public and students alike to sample the very best in creativity and innovation.
Ulster University has historically been the principal source for new creative talent in Northern Ireland. It continues to fulfill this increasingly important role and I am delighted that the stature of the Festival has grown in keeping with our position as a leading player in contemporary arts.
My thanks to the Festival Director, Tim Kerr and the team in our Development and Alumni Relations Office. As I near the end of my tenure as Vice-Chancellor, I am proud that the Festival has become such a special beacon for the University. It reflects the significant contribution which the creative industries make to our economy and to the quality of life across society.
I am pleased in the knowledge that the Festival of Art & Design is in safe hands and will continue to grow from strength to strength.
