Jonas Staal is a Dutch visual artist whose work deals with the relationship between art, politics, and ideology. He studied monumental art in the Netherlands and Boston, USA and is the founder of the artistic and political organisation New World Summit that creates alternative political platforms for organisations banned from democratic discourse.
He created the New World Academy in 2013 in partnership with the Base for Contemporary Art in Utrecht, inviting organisations to collaborate with artists and students to develop projects that explore the role of art at the centre of politics.
His work includes art in public spaces, exhibitions, lectures, and publications, and has been shown in cities across the world including the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven NL; the David Roberts Art Foundation in London UK; Kadist Art Foundation in Paris; the 4th Moscow Biennial; the 7th Berlin Biennale and the 1st Kochi-Muziris Biennial in Kochi, 2012. He regularly publishes in books, newspapers and magazines. Jonas will talk about his own practice and his work with New World Summit.
